Over fifty senior decision makers from government and industry were present for a debate on the future of business enabled electronically, at the event to launch the UK Partners for Electronic Business' new website and publications on Thursday 19 September.
A panel of representatives from the partner organisations addressed concerns raised by attendees, which included educating people about standards and how to manage businesses in an e-business environment.
The Partners were joined by Carl Cargill, from US company Sun Microsystems. In his presentation and during the debate, he emphasised the role of standards as a management tool and said of UKP.ebs Business Enabled Electronically publication that, "The B.E.E. principles allow a start to planning and ending the structuring chaos. It may not be the right answer, but if we don't start, we won't achieve anything."
The debate was preceded by a series of presentations introducing the UKP.eb's new initiatives. Michèle Barker of SITPRO, introduced the website, www.ukpeb.org, which will act as a portal for information about e-business and standards.
