In order to demonstrate the wider benefits of UNeDocsUK (bringing aligned paper documents and electronic equivalents together), SITPRO has commissioned a research study to conduct and deliver an assessment of the benefits and financial savings that e-business and UNeDocsUK could bring to the perishable goods sector.
The study will use as an exemplar a major supermarket chain and will identify the scale of the savings that could be gained by the UK economy from adoption of UNeDocsUK within this sector alone. As part of its analysis, the study will confirm:
- the volume and value of perishable goods traded cross-border into the UK from outside Europe;
- the spoilage rate; and
- the cost of prevention through refrigerated storage sites at the border.
The benefit of this study will be the development of a case study that would feature a headline organisation that should demonstrate the value of the UNeDocsUK project and that would also have the potential for practical implementation as a pilot project. The study is expected to conclude in December 2006.
