The third Asia-Europe Alliance for Paperless Trade (ASEAL) Conference took place in Paris in January. Malaysia was welcomed into the group as its second ordinary member. Six other countries (Luxembourg, Morocco, Senegal, Spain, Thailand and Vietnam) joined the alliance as observers. The successful meeting, attended by Renaud Dutreil, the French Minister for SMEs, reviewed the paperless trading projects between Europe and Asia which had been established since the last meeting, held in the UK. In the margins, SITPRO and the Malaysian company DagangNet signed a co-operation agreement that will lead to joint project work in the field of paperless trading, which we hope will be able to report positive progress by the 4th ASEAL Conference.
The alliance elected a new Chairman, Jean-Marc Dufour, President of Paris e-Commerce International, who succeeds SITPRO's Gordon Cragge, who in turn was elected as Vice-Chair. The conference concluded with an address by actor Christopher Lambert who, in addition to his successful film career, operates two small companies and acts as a champion of SMEs for the French government.
