The expansion of Europe and a growing acknowledgement of the importance of facilitation is all grist to the mill for European trade facilitation umbrella body EUROPRO. A meeting in the margins of the latest UN/CEFACT Forum gave the group an opportunity to talk to participants about the issues facing the trade in Europe, exciting the interest of a number of new trade facilitation organisations including those in Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany and the new EU member states.
Following the success of SITPRO's report, Putting European Competitiveness at the Heart of 21st Century Electronic Trading (pdf 598KB
), EUROPRO plans to expand its engagement on issues such as the Modernised Customs Code (currently with the European Parliament for second reading), security (including 100% screening) and single windows in order to engage centrally and nationally with decision makers and press home in a coordinated fashion the trade facilitation perspective to each issue.
