Obituary - Robin Dare

SITPRO was saddened to learn of the death, at the end of February, of Robin Dare, Chief Executive of the New Zealand Customs Service since August 2000. He was appointed following a long career in the New Zealand Customs Service and was highly regarded by his colleagues in New Zealand and in the international Customs community.

SITPRO knew Robin well and will miss his sound approach to the management of international trade.

Don't Forget...

On 1 May 2004, ten new countries joined the European Union.

If you are exporting to or importing from Cyprus (areas controlled by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus), the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia or Slovenia your transactions will no longer require certain documents (including the EUR1 and the SAD), but will entail the same requirements as other EU movements (for example inclusion on your Intrastat declaration).

If you are in any doubt about the revised requirements, please check what is required. SITPRO's briefing on Supplying Goods to the European Union has been revised to take account of these changes and is available at www.sitpro.org.uk/trade/export.html.
