SITPRO NEWS Trade Facilitation Now!

SITPRO’s Advisory Council

Following the announcement of the new Board of Directors at the beginning of the year, SITPRO has now set up a new Advisory Council to play an influential role in the development of policy in support of the Board.

The members of this new group are:

Single Window Conference

The Austrian Presidency of the European Union hosted a three day High Level Conference in Innsbruck at the start of March on the European Single Window project. The aim of the conference was to elaborate a strategy for a common approach. The European Commission, Member States, the Trade and international organisations such as UNECE were all represented.

The conference recognised the need for a road map or action plan for the European project and for developments at the international level for example on harmonised standards to be taken into account. The conference also saw promotion of the project at both the Community and national level as important to generate the political will necessary to draw it to a successful conclusion. In particular the trade were invited to elaborate position papers on the importance of the European Single Window and distribute them to decision makers.

A document setting out the final conclusions in full can be found at: http://eu2006.bmf.gv.at/de/ DasFinanzministeriu_11/ AktuelleFachinformationen/Zoll/ 060303_Final_Conclusions __v03.pdf External Link Icon.

Departure

In March, SITPRO said farewell to Andrew Grainger. Andrew was with SITPRO for four years and during that time made a significant contribution to many areas of the organisation’s work and particularly, in recent years, to SITPRO’s work in Europe. He will be spending much of his time in the immediate future completing his PhD and we wish him all the best in this and his future endeavours.
