Firstly, I would like congratulate Norman Rose on his appointment as our new Vice-Chairman. Currently everyone is preoccupied with security issues, food safety, the Iraqi conflict and the global economic downturn. Trade facilitation is not an issue high on the agenda of many people or organisations. However, now is a time when SITPRO has to be resolute in ensuring that security and control are achieved through facilitation. We must also redouble our effort to ensure that valuable options are available to improve the management of international trade, despite the possibility of waning support for international initiatives and economic constraint.
