Students from Felixstowe wait to give their presentations

When I was at school, the world of work seemed a long way off and I would have been hard pressed to tell you what I wanted to do for a living. I certainly would have never guessed that I would be working in international trade.

However, the students on the Career Advancement Programme in Felixstowe seem to be a lot more focussed. In September, SITPRO’s Advisory Council was visited by Year 11 students taking this course who are already learning the practical skills needed by importers and exporters - everything from choosing markets to selecting transport routes and completing documents.

While most of us are happy with procedures that work, these students want to know why things are not easier. I hope they don’t stop asking these questions - trade facilitation thrives on challenging the status quo and the exporters of the future will need a SITPRO of the future!
