In this issue SITPRO’s Helpdesk Advisers look at export licences.
Q. We are exporting to Iran and would like to know what documentation is required. I understand we may need an export licence.
A. Strategic goods exported from the United Kingdom require an export licence issued by the Export Control Organisation. Strategic goods include, but are not limited to:
- Goods, technology and software designed or modified for military use
- Goods, technology and software intended for civil purposes that could be used for a military purpose or in the development of weapons of mass destruction
- Goods on the EU's Human Rights list such as those used for capital punishment and torture
In view of the current political situation anyone arranging the shipment of goods to Iran is strongly advised to check the ECO website to determine whether their goods require a licence (http://www.dti.gov.uk/europeandtrade/strategic-export-control (Link to an external site - Disclaimer
)). This also applies to goods being sent to Iran from another country under trafficking/brokering arrangements in the UK.
For further information please contact the ECO by email (ECO.Help@berr.gsi.gov.uk
) or fax (020 7215 0531).
Information about product specific Iranian documentary requirements for importing goods into Iran can be found on the EU's Market Access Database http://mkaccdb.eu.int under 'Exporters' Guide to Import Formalities'. You can also find general information on trading with Iran on the UK Trade and Investment website: http://www.uktradeinvest.gov.uk (Link to an external site - Disclaimer
