ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (Box 12) Shipping Marks

Number and kind of packages; description of goods

The following information must also appear in association with the UN Number, the Proper Shipping Name, the class/division:

a. packing group – where assigned;

b. the words “MARINE POLLUTANT” for substances so designated in the IMDG Code;

c. the minimum closed cup (cc) flashpoint in oC – if 60 oC or less;

d. subsidiary hazards, if applicable; and

e. the words “SALVAGE PACKAGING” for dangerous goods transported in salvage packaging together with the description of the goods.

Additional information is required for:

f. substances and articles in Classes 1 and 2;

g. certain substances in Classes 4.1 and 5.2;

h. infectious substances (Class 6.2);

i. radioactive material (Class 7);

j. empty packaging/tanks containing residues;

k. waste dangerous goods;

l. dangerous goods consigned as limited quantities;

m. dangerous goods requiring a weathering certificate; and

n. dangerous goods that are viscous substances.

ADR/RID/GB & Northern Ireland Road and Rail Regulations

For dangerous goods moved under ADR/RID and/or GB & Northern Ireland Road and Rail Regulations, or any amending or replacement regulations, the following information must be given:

a. the UN Number;

b. the Proper Shipping Name;

c. the Class, and where applicable the subsidiary hazard;

d. control and emergency temperatures where appropriate

IMPORTANT NOTE – Combined Transport Movements.

A consignment that fully meets the requirements of the IMDG Code for packing, mixed packing, marking and labelling shall be accepted for carriage under ADR/RID in a transport chain including maritime transport.

For combined sea and road/rail transport, a statement must be included in the transport document as follows; “Carriage in accordance with 1.1.4.2.1”

CONTAINER/VEHICLE PACKING CERTIFICATE ( Box 15)

The signature given overleaf in Box 15 must be that of the person controlling the container/vehicle packing operation.

It is certified that:

  1. the container/vehicle was clean, dry and apparently fit to receive the goods;
  2. if the consignments include goods of Class 1, other than division 1.4, the container/vehicle is structurally serviceable in conformity with the IMDG Code;
  3. packages which need to be segregated in accordance with applicable segregation requirements have not been packed together onto or in the container/vehicle unless specially authorised by the Competent Authority;
  4. all packages have been externally inspected for damage and only sound packages have been loaded and all goods have been properly loaded and, where necessary, adequately braced with securing material to suit the mode(s) of transport for the intended journey;
  5. drums have been stowed in a upright position, unless otherwise authorised by the Competent Authority and all goods have been properly loaded and, where necessary, adequately braced with securing material to suit the mode(s) of transport for the intended journey;
  6. when materials are transported in bulk the cargo has been evenly distributed in the container/vehicle;
  7. the packages and the container/vehicle have been properly marked, labelled and placarded. Any irrelevant marks, labels and placards have been removed;
  8. when solid carbon dioxide (CO 2 - dry ice) is used for cooling purposes, the container/vehicle is externally marked or labelled in a conspicuous place e.g. at the door end, with the words:
    DANGEROUS CO 2 GAS (DRY ICE) INSIDE,
    VENTILATE THOROUGHLY BEFORE ENTERING
  9. when this Dangerous Goods Note is used as a container/vehicle packing certificate only, not a combined document, a Dangerous Goods Declaration signed by the shipper or supplier has been issued/received to cover each dangerous goods consignment loaded in the container/vehicle.

Note: The container/vehicle packing certificate is not required for tanks.

The International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code), as revised or re-issued from time to time by the International Maritime Organisation

Annex 1 to the Uniform Rules concerning the Contract for International Carriage of Goods by Rail (CIM), as revisedor re-issued from time to time

European Agreement concerning the international carriage of dangerous goods by road (ADR) as revised or re-issued from time to time

The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations, as applicable in Great Britain and Northern Ireland and as revisedor re-issued from time to time.
